The biggest hurdle people face when it comes to weight loss is just figuring out where to start. We all know saying “I’m going to lose weight” and actually doing it are sometimes two completely different things. I’m I right!
It does not matter how much you would like lose, whether it is 10 pounds or a hundred pounds, we are going to get you off on the right foot!
Your first step and number one priority is setting your goals. Look at it as mile post markers on the highway. Without these markers, you have no idea as to how long it is going to take to reach your destination. The same applies to your weight loss goal. You have no idea of how much time and effort it will take to reach your goal.
Now, ask yourself these questions.
1. How much weight do I want to lose?
2. At what point in time do you expect to reach your goal?
Immediately, write down these goals. This way you will always have a constant reminder of your goals so they will not be forgotten. Make little notes (multiple copies) and place them all around the house.
Especially, place these reminders in the KITCHEN; refrigerator, cupboards, cabinets, freezer, etc. In these particular areas lives the “temptation demon” which tries to ruin your weight loss efforts. So, we need extra reminders to steer us away.
Now that your goals are set, we need to make them achievable, and REALISTIC.
If you have a goal of dropping 50 pounds within a couple of weeks or a month, sorry, it is not going to happen for you. Setting a goal like this will result in doom, thus nullifying the effectiveness of goal setting.
When an unrealistic goal is set, you set yourself up for failure. You will end up frustrated and disappointed in yours efforts to achieve weight loss.
A good rule of thumb, no matter what you do, would be to figure about 1 to 2 pounds per week. You may get faster results, but this is a good barometer. Weight loss takes time. There is no magic dust to make these changes overnight.
Going back to our example, if you had a goal of losing 50 pounds of extra weight, the realistic time table would be at least five to six months to achieve.
The object is to set small and reachable goals for you. Once you achieved your goal, you will gain confidence, self esteem, and will be proud of what you just accomplished.
Then, once you have gained that sense of accomplishment, you will be able to move forward, possibly setting new goals (if needed) or just maintaining where you stand.

2 Easy Steps for Weight Loss
I am not here to say losing weight is neither easy nor hard to achieve. I do know that you don’t need the latest miracle diet or weight loss pills to accomplish your goal. Simply start with these two little changes.
First, stay away from fructose corn syrup.
Fructose corn syrup blocks the brain receptors that tell your body whether or not you had enough to eat or not. More times than not, the end result are that one tends to overeat causing ourselves to gain a few extra pounds without being aware of it.
Also, these foods tend to drastically spike up your blood sugar levels. Unfortunately, if you keep this up, you may find yourself on the road to becoming a diabetic. Some examples of these types of foods include; chips, soda, candies, etc. These are more commonly known as “junk foods”. Try to keep away from consuming these types of foods as much as possible, no matter how bad the temptation may be.
Secondly, try to eat smaller and more frequent meals.
In today’s world, people devote the least amount of time to eating. Most people have three meals a day. Some get by with just two meals. In either case, believe it or not, this is one of the biggest ways to gain inches and pounds!
Look. In order to lose weight, you need to consume SIX smaller meals per day! Yes, SIX! Instead of eating three larger meals, simply split each of your meals into two and have a smaller meal at intervals of every three to four hours.
It may sound hard, especially for the working family, but there are three major advantages to eating smaller meals.
1. When you eat frequently, you will not be hungry at odd times during the day; therefore there is no reason to be snacking on “junk foods.”
2. Your metabolic rate will continue to operate at a high level throughout the day, instead of up and down during the course of the day.
3. Your blood sugar levels will not spike up to high levels. Which this great if you’re a diabetic!
If you can follow these two simple steps, you will be well on your way to permanent weight loss! Sure there are more things a person can do to help out the process such as finding and preparing the right foods to eat. Also, incorporating some type of physical activities into your lifestyle would not hurt either.
But, by following these steps, you will find yourself heading in the right direction to successful weight loss.

4 Guidelines to Eating Out
Once in awhile you probably don’t have time to prepare a good home cooked meal or better yet, don’t feel like cooking it. If you are not aware of what you are doing, going out to a restaurant is probably not the best idea if you are trying to lose weight.
A good rule of thumb:
If a particular food tastes too good, chances are it probably means it has been richly fried, deep fat fried, etc. As a result, it is not very good for your health. Not surprising, the raw vegetables and fruits, which in most peoples’ minds, does not taste as good, are the best for your weight loss goals.
1. Be aware of how much you are planning on eating before you dive in! Keep in mind your proper proportions; eat only your proportioned limit. Most restaurants allow you to take home the extras, so you can have another meal at home.
2. Stay away from buffets like it is a plague. Restaurant buffet lines are filled with a lot of high calorie foods. These foods, as you may be aware of, are prepared in bulks and masses in some type of high fat content cooking oil.
This alone makes it nearly impossible for those looking to shed a few extra pounds. If you decide to eat at a buffet, look at the salads and other alternatives and stay away from the fatty foods, so you do not build up excessive fat!
3. Leave the salad dressing alone. I know you have heard that salads are an excellent way to have quick weight loss. This is true. Salads are nothing more than chopped up raw vegetables. Raw vegetables boost your metabolic rate, thus helps your body to burn off fat. The salad dressing, on the other hand in most restaurants, is very high in calories, counteracting your weight loss efforts.
4. Try visiting a vegetarian restaurant versus a conventional restaurant. With conventional restaurants, you must be extremely careful to make choices that are not high in fat or high in calories.
For example, chicken meat is served in most restaurants; however it is smothered with huge amounts of fat (gravy, glazed, etc). On the other hand, if you can find it, lean chicken meat is good for you. The trouble is that most restaurants do not offer this on their menus.
Now, there is nothing wrong with eating out at restaurants as long as you use discretion and keep your weight loss goals in mind. I’m sure all of us eat out at least once in a while. Remember the big picture to a healthier and better you!

Unfortunately, I must say that usually something drastic must happen to you personally that forces you to realize the impact it has on your life and the people around you.
You have also probably heard of all the severe problems a person can experience by being excessively overweight. They include several health risks. Diabetes, high cholesterol level, high blood pressure, heart diseases, and sleep apnea, just to name a few. The list is almost endless.
At some point down the road, maybe even now while your reading this article, it will hit you. Maybe you feel lazy, dizzy, or drowsy all the time. Maybe you have a hard time just doing day to day activities.
You have to consider asking yourself these questions.
Has this weight problem caused a major hindrance to your lifestyle?
Did your doctor advise you to lose some weight?
Have people started ignoring you or avoiding you?
Are you unable to get promotions in your workplace?
Getting turned down on dates?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, you may want to start to consider looking into some type of weight loss plan. Maybe you are ready, now.
Put your foot down and exclaim:
“Enough is enough!”
“I am ready and MUST do something about this!”
If this is the case, I applaud you! I put my full confidence in you!

The next thing to do is to take action. Don’t wait! Time is precious!
You have the drive and will to succeed. Use it to your advantage!
